Steps:
• Grip the knife securely by the handle.
• Keep the blade pointing away from your body.
• Place the heel of the blade against the outer edge of the can lid.
• Press downward carefully to puncture the lid.
• Repeat around the edge until the lid can be lifted.
Always maintain complete control of the knife and never force it if it begins to slip.
If no tools are available at all, there is one more option that relies only on a rough surface and a little patience.
