Preparation:
Preheat the oven:
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (top and bottom heat) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Prepare the dough:
Melt the butter or margarine in a large bowl. Add sugar, eggs, vanilla sugar, and baking powder. Mix well. Gradually work in the flour until you get a smooth dough.
Prepare the plums:
Wash the plums, remove the pits, and cut them in halves. Spread the prepared plums evenly over the dough.
Make the streusel:
In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, vanilla sugar, and cinnamon or lemon zest. Add the cold butter in small pieces and rub everything together with your hands (or use a mixer) until crumbly.
Bake the cake:
Sprinkle the streusel evenly over the plums. Bake in the preheated oven for about 35–40 minutes, until the streusel turns golden brown.
Let cool:
Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet.
Serve:
