Scientists warn of effects of vaping even without nicotine
Vaping, even without nicotine, is often touted as a healthier alternative to smoking. However, many studies, including one conducted by the University of Pennsylvania and published in Medical and Life Sciences, reveal that this practice can have serious health consequences.
The components of nicotine-free e-liquids
E-liquids used in electronic cigarettes contain substances such as propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin and various flavorings. These components, when heated, can release toxic compounds such as formaldehyde and acrolein, known for their irritating and inflammatory effects on the respiratory tract.
Effects on the respiratory system
Inhaling e-cigarette aerosols can cause inflammation of the airways, leading to coughing, throat irritation, and difficulty breathing. Studies show that these effects are not limited to prolonged use: even a single vaping session can reduce oxygen saturation and temporarily impair lung function.
