Why should you stop getting up to urinate?

Are you tired of nights interrupted by frequent trips to the bathroom? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Getting up one or more times to urinate may seem trivial, even unavoidable. And yet, it could disrupt your sleep more than you imagine… Especially REM sleep, which is so important for our mental and physical balance. So, why does this habit disrupt our nights so much, and how can we regain truly restful sleep? We’ll explain.
REM sleep, the unsung hero
This sleep phase acts somewhat like the regulatory center for our nights. It improves memory, stabilizes mood, and helps manage our emotions. In short, this is when our brain puts things in order.

But that’s not all: during REM sleep, our body produces an important hormone, ADH (antidiuretic hormone). Its role? To reduce urine production during the night, precisely to avoid… having to go to the bathroom.

The problem: if our sleep is disrupted (stress, unstable habits, screen time, etc.), this hormone is secreted in smaller quantities. The result: the bladder functions as if it were daytime, forcing us to get out of bed.
